Hungary Today
Today (2008), Hungary boasts a functioning democratic government and an economy that is recovering from many years of communism. Hungary’s two dominant political parties are the FIDESĀ (the Young Democrats) and MSzP (the Hungarian Socialist Party), whose founders were part of the old communist government. MSzP is the party currently in power. Despite what you might expect from their past, they are continuing to privatize large segments of the Hungarian economy, including the health care industry.
We areĀ grateful to God for the freedom to proclaim the gospel in this part of the old Soviet bloc, a prospect that few of my generation thought would be possible in our lifetime.
